General Description

Northeast Community College, a Top 10 Nationally Ranked Community College located in Norfolk, Nebraska is seeking a talented individual with a passion for music and teaching to fulfill the role of Music Instructor / Director of Choral Activities.

The purpose of this position is to instruct classes and labs as assigned by the Dean and to develop new courses. This is accomplished by maintaining requisite office hours; providing academic advisement to students; serving on college committees; attending meetings; participating in professional development activities; and performing all instructional-related activities as directed within the policies, guidelines, and regulations of Northeast Community College.

Northeast Community College has a well-established music department with a rich history of over 40 years of music excellence and a unique mix of student and community participation. The successful candidate will direct choral ensembles and teach other courses (to be determined by applicant’s qualifications and departmental needs); possible teaching assignments may include courses such as Introduction to Music, Music Theory, Ear Training & Sight Singing, and Applied Lessons.

Qualifications: Education

Requires master’s degree in music, music education or a related field. Successful candidate will meet the degree requirement or be willing to attain the required degree within two years of hire date.


Seeking an experienced choral director who is interested in leading a vibrant, well-established music program with concert choir, chamber ensemble, and auditioned swing choir. Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in post-secondary education preferred. Must demonstrate ability to teach students of all levels of musical ability. Record of success in recruitment and retention is important.


Successful candidate will possess the following: strong vocal abilities, effective communication/interpersonal skills with flexible attitude and ability to work as a team player, organizational and time-management skills, demonstrated success leading vocal groups in a variety of genres, ability to interact with peers, high school choir directors, and prospective students through activities such as auditions, festivals, tours and adjudications.

Candidates selected for interview will be expected to provide a 15-20 minute teaching demonstration on a subject of his/her choice and provide a video portfolio of student performances under the direction of the candidate.
