General Description

The Precision Agriculture Trainer will work in conjunction with a team of instructors to create curriculum, materials, and hands-on activities to teach a variety of topics/modules in precision agriculture. Instruction/training will be delivered at multiple levels to high school, college, worker and producer groups. The position is designed to meet the objectives for an Advanced Technological Education grant recently awarded to Northeast Community College by the National Science Foundation.

The Trainer will assist in all administrative duties, facilitate the integration of the College’s farm data and the Precision Agriculture Learning (PAL) simulator lessons as active learning material for agriculture courses, prepare and manage the use of the PAL simulator for all levels of training, prepare and supervise the college students that educate high school students on the use of equipment, and ensure educators are prepared to teach as outlined by the grant. In addition, the Precision Agriculture Trainer will assist in networking with high school teachers and dissemination of the project curriculum at annual state-wide education conferences and at national agriculture education conferences.

This is accomplished by:
Instructing and evaluating students effectively in instructional settings through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
Incorporating the use of technology in performing instructional and non-instructional duties including distance education technologies, computerized & multi-media presentations, flipped classrooms, and use of simulators.
Demonstrating experience with the following agricultural practices: Integrated Pest Management, crop science, soil science, precision agriculture, GPS, GIS, CAD, water management, irrigation design, and Ag Business.
Demonstrating the ability to learn and adapt new agricultural technologies to the instructional program, teach a wide range of ag-related topics as the schedule and situation require, communicate clearly with students, industry and staff, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of individuals including students, staff, industry, and community organizations.

This is a 3-year grant funded position, with plans to sustain this position after the expiration of the grant.

Qualifications: Education

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required.


One to three years of experience in a Precision Ag related field is required.


Excellent Communication skills
Ability to use word processing and other computer software to create course materials
Knowledge of Precision Ag Technology and data utilization.
Expertise in operation and maintenance of Precision Ag equipment.
Working knowledge of Precision Ag equipment electronics and hydraulics, field mapping, variable rate irrigation, precision planting and other crop related technologies.
Experience in teaching secondary and/or post-secondary courses preferred.
Valid driver’s license required.
